As I try to cling to the last few hot days here in San Francisco, I can’t help but notice the arctic wind flow that whips across the peninsula every year has begun. Fall and Winter are practically days away. I’m sure most of us have already stocked up on cute cardigans, and light weight jackets during the back to school season. While the sweater friendly Fall trends are stylish and hip they will have me shivering in my boots this winter.

I need hardy, comfortable, and most importantly toasty warm apparel. The only problem is I normally end up looking like the Michelin Man in a puffy down jacket that lacks shape and definitely style. On my quest for the most epic winter wear I found the best of all worlds. Eco friendly hemp wear that’s soft, warm, and stylish!

Hemp Hoodlamb, located in (you guessed it) Amsterdam, has created the most fashionable hemp clothing line in existence. And no, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to buy a few pieces! The earth friendly company promotes the use of hemp because it is one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics in the world, requiring no pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to grow. It actually returns nutrients to the soil and can reach a height of three meters in 100 days, making it one of the most resource-efficient and fastest growing crops in the world. The owners main aim was to begin a contra-movement against the mass-production and mass-pollution of the clothing industry.

Here are some of my favorite pieces from Hemp Hoodlamb’s Winter Collection:

So cool. Would you strut your stuff in this hemp wear?

Im iffy about buying hemp products- but only because I havent done my research yet. I always question “miracle crops” that are supposed to be so good for the earth and so useful. I remember back in high school being so impressed with information I learned on soy- but its just another grain (like corn) being totally abused by big agribusiness.
Can you imagine corn clothing? :P But hey maybe this winter is when I hit the books and find out if its fair fashion :)
