Do You Have A Theme Song?

woman listening to music
If you cared to listen I could probably take you on a journey through my life with music alone. Pop in an MC Hammer song and it’ll throw me back to my friends and I making up dance steps on the playground. A little Bob Marley reminds me of the summer I first fell in love. But, put on a Papa Roach hit and waves of frustration and self doubt flush my system. Many events in my life have gone fuzzy over the years, but music has a way of imprinting memories like no other. Not only do the images come back, but often times the emotions tied to them.

Digging through my iPod the other day I was amazed at how much of an influence music has had on my life. When things get tough I turn to certain albums or artists who either inspire or relate with my current situation. Typically blasting the same songs over and over until I can let go and push forward with confidence and a new attitude. The only problem… now that entire Pink album reminds me of my break-up. So I’ve smartened up about this whole music memory connection and have decided to use tunes to inspire and remind me what’s important in life.

For the first time in my life I have a theme song!! Up to this point I never found a song that nailed down exactly what I need motivation wise.

Drum roll please….

TI and Rihanna Live Your Life

No it’s not some underground unheard of tune. It’s mainstream, but who the hell cares! It’s message is fantastic! All we can do is live and enjoy our lives. That is our only job in this world. To live in the present moment, appreciate those moments, and let others do the same.

What’s your theme song? What about that song keeps you amped? Share so we can all add it to our iPods.

My theme song is “Feeling Good”, by Nina Simone. It always calms me… and reminds me that I have a good life.

I’m a musician at heart, so yes, my life is defined and run by music! I’m a heavy rocker who likes dark stuff — a few years ago I would have said my theme song was “Psychotic Break” by Jerry Cantrell. Right now, I would say “The Grudge” by Tool.

A great post!

What a fun post. I definitely can relate…

Any Billy Joel Song….my mother’s favorite always brightens my mood

2Pac ‘Me Against the World’….that album could get me through anything.

Skid Row ‘I Remember You’…ahhhh, 6th Grade Love

Doors ‘LA Woman’….college was a fun experimental time, and this song was a classic for me, even though i went to school(s) b/t 97 – 2004.

I could go on and on….

Hey Amber

Everyone should have a theme tune right?

Mine change all the time and I do love the cheesy ones like the Rocky them tune, makes me feel ready for anything!

Right now though my theme tune seems to be Mariah Carey, Hero. It’s like after year’s of liking it I suddenly “get it”.

In love, light and abundance x x x
