Russian’s Annual Procreate Day = Day Off, and Prizes

by Amber on August 16, 2007

vj day celebrating couple kissingSeptember 12th, labeled “The Day of Conception” in Russia, is coming around soon. Are you ready?…But seriously, President Vladimir Putin has given couples this special day off for the last three years in the hopes of delivering hundreds of babies on Russia’s national day (June 12th…9 months later). In this all out competition if a couple gives birth to a little one on June 12th they could possible win money, cars, and yes even refridgerators. Just what I always wanted! The Russian government also gives cash to those couples with more than one child.

Why all the incentives, you ask? Russia is one of the most scarcely populated countries in the world with a birth rate that has been declining since the 1990′s.

So while some countries are enticing residents with fancy cars to have more children, others are bursting at the seams. I bet your wondering how much we should be procreating then, right? Well in Traditional Chinese Medicine, sexual activity is directly linked to one’s vitality. Having sex too often can drain the body of its Jing (an essence that determines one’s resistance to disease, and longevity. Jing is irreplaceable and once used up through a lifetime, life ceases.) Interestingly enough,

“According to modern nutrition, semen contains substantial amounts of zinc and omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential to proper immune fuction. Excessive loss of semen, therefore, taxes the body’s stores of these (and other) nutirents.”Healing With Whole Foods: Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition (3rd Edition)

I know, I know this isn’t a crowd pleaser! But, it’s definitely something interesting to think about.
