How many products do you put on your skin everyday? Do you wear makeup? Shampoo, condition and drench your locks with other goos? Take this moment to first breathe, and then examine your current beauty methods. Natural radiant beauty most certainly comes from the inside out. Furthermore, what we put on our bodies is just as important as positive self chatter and enzyme rich nutrition.
As I lay over in Singapore today after a rejuvinating two weeks in the botonical mecca of Bali, Indonesia, I sit sticky in the humidity with a few layers of “products.” Natural bug repellent from essential oils and my go-to moisturizer- raw organic coconut oil. I keep my make-up routine equally tame and raw by using a tinted organic moisturizer for a light cover up. Check out natural beauty travel tips for more of my daily rituals and recommendations.
As part of my six week challenge series inpsired by Aveeno, I urge you to detox your beauty kit. Toss the chemical laden potions and lotions for what nature intended you to absorb. Start this moment with my simple buying tips…
1.) Look for paraben and sulphate free. Sulphates strip your locks of their natural oils.
2.) The less ingredients the better. Just like processed foods.
3.) Look for organic, but remember that there are no laws on beauty product labeling, like in the food industry.
I picked up a few clay masks, scrubs, and massage oils created with local Balinese flowers, herbs and spices. The perfect companions on dehydrating flights across the planet! Of course I always urge you to discover locally grown and blended products or design your own.
What are your natural self care/beauty techniques? How can you swap chemicals for botanicals more? Share your ideas in the comments so we can all learn from your genius.

I couldn’t agree more! I completely switched everything I use to all natural, organic, and chemical free products, and I definitely noticed the change in my well-being as a whole. It really is part of true and total health. As my holistic health teacher would say “You don’t want to put anything on your body that you wouldn’t put in your body.” If you eat organic your fridge is pretty much your own personal beauty supply store!
Derek- you got it buddy. If u can’t eat it don’t put it on your skin.
I have very sensitive skin and had it since I was quite young. I kept getting medications to treat it until one day I realized…I take such care of what I put in my body, yet I’m putting these chemicals on my largest organ that sinks into my body?!? It didn’t make sense. It was hard to give up some of my chemical-ridden face care products, but must admit, I know I’m doing my body inside & out a favor now that’ll be reflected later. Now, I’me constantly finding ways to give my skin a break…I even upgraded my soap to an oil-based one. It’s great for me and my sensitive skin. I find that trial & error and research is truly key.
Aimee,
Trial and error and experimentation. I couldn’t agree more. Isn’t it hilarious that we’ve been duped into thinking we need to pile layers of chemicals on our skin? Marketing is nuts! Do you make your own masks, scrubs or washes?
