Sooner or later it will have to go mandatory. Composting too! Recycling has been huge in California for some time now, but I am so happy to see composting going mainstream. I've heard that Seattle is really green and eco minded as well. A big reason a lot of people bop between the two cities. @Colin- I won't be headed back to oz anytime soon :( I made the leap back home knowing that I needed to save for several months in order to make my next move to Europe. It would have been Sydney or SF and I chose SF. I think they already require this (or something like it) in Seattle, and last time I was there most people appreciated it as a nice touch rather than dreading having to complete the extra step every time they cooked.
