Practice Downward Dog With Your Dog

by Amber on October 9, 2007

dogaDoga is a fun new way to build a stronger bond with your pup, while practicing yoga. Yoga studios around the country are opening their doors to our four legged friends so they too can find some relaxation, and mental clarity. Sounds like a joke right? Doga instructors take what they do seriously and are getting lots of press for their unique addition to the yoga studio. East Yoga Center in New York describes their popular class:

“Doga is all about bonding with your pet and giving the dog 45 minutes of undivided attention and praise from their favorite person in the world. The dogs do sun salutations and you’ll learn specific massage techniques to calm your dog and aid both circulation and digestion processes. And don’t worry: You’ll also get a workout, using your dog to assist you in traditional and modified poses.”

I also read a hilarious encounter with Doga in my home of San Francisco that was published in USA Today.

If I had a dog, perferably a well trained one, this might be an option. But trying to hold a warrior pose while rangling your dog as it’s enjoying prancing around or playing with the other dogs, might add a little too much stress to my tranquil yoga practice.
