How Do You Deal With Your Flow?

Calling all radiant goddesses and the men who love them. Last post I went in depth with my go-to remedies for PMS symptoms, but today I want to share a really easy and green alternative to tampons and pads. These cotton and plastic unsustainable nightmares cost us moolah and end up in landfills. Just imagine how much money you spend in a lifetime on absorbing your natural flow.

I’m getting super personal in this post and letting you in on my latest find. After buying boxes and boxes of tampons over the years I was elated to find a greener alternative. The Softcup is the newest creation on the market. It collects rather than absorbs your flow and sits right around your cervix.

You know me. I love to experiment with anything that will make my life greener, leaner and easier. I gave the Softcup a whirl last month. Here are my findings…

1.) I could easily wear it for up to 12 hours with no risk of toxic shock syndrome. It’s actually never been reported with Softcup users!

2.) I wore it to the pool last time I was at Rancho La Puerta and no leaking!

3.) It carried me through an intense 6 hour day of dancing and teaching. Now that’s power.

4.) No guilt. The Softcup is reusable. I got through my entire cycle with just one cup.

5.) Instant stress relief. My cycle was the last thing on my mind, which gave me ample time to create and do what I really love. Just the freedom it provides rules.

Overall, I found the Softcup fantastic and will keep it in my goddess kit for next month. What other alternatives to tampons and pads have you tried? Have you seen or tried this or other cups?

Softcup® is a flexible little cup that is worn internally, around your cervix. It collects, rather than absorbs menstrual flow. It can be worn for up to 12 hours so it’s great for busy women, or women who just don’t want to have to think about changing a pad or a tampon every few hours.

Sound’s great! However, I’d be careful at boasting that there’s no risk of toxic shock syndrome because these things are still fairly new on the market and just because a case hasn’t been reported doesn’t mean that there won’t be a case in the future.

I do like the eco-factor though but it kind of skeeves me out thinking about removing and inserting a new one. It could be messy in that respect unless you were gloves.

Anyway, I’m certainly up for giving ‘em a try.

I’m commenting a little late on this but if you like the Softcup you should also look into the Moon cup or the Diva cup. Same eco-friendly idea, a bit more expensive but will last for years!

I’ve used the Deva cup for the last 10 years (the same one… I’m replacing it this month actually)… accidentally left it in without changing it for 3 whole days!!! I don’t advise this, but you know, I’ve NEVER had any toxic shock syndrome or infection or anything. The Deva cup positively changed how I feel about my period.
