Mandometer: Computer Aides Healthy Eating Habits

The Mandometer
Originally created for the treatment of eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, the Mandometer is now being used to help overweight individuals develop healthy eating habits. Most recently, a young man from the UK shared his weightloss success story thanks to the help of this computerized scale.

Sixteen year old Laurence Willshire is enjoying a more confident, happy, and active lifestyle since dropping 40 pounds using the Mandometer. The Mandometer is a computer that is attached to a series of scales and a plate where food is placed. The scale monitors how quickly an individual eats, how much is eaten, and what types of food are consumed. Throughout the meal Willshire hears, “Are you still hungry?” and “Take your time between each bite,” from the scales speakers.

Laurence is not the only one benefiting from the meter. He is one of 120 volunteers testing the mandometer in the first trial of its kind by the Childhood Obesity Clinic at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

What a great idea! Obesity has reached epidemic proporations here in the U.S and creating healthy eating habits is the first step in losing weight. Instead of trying countless crash diets this meter might just be the answer to maintaining a nutrition plan that will last a lifetime.
