Peet’s coffee sat on my tray table as Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance blasted my brain aboard my first Virgin America flight. Beaming San Diego marked the spot on my Memorial Day weekend treasure map. Sun, beach, friends, superfoods, and adventure awaited.
A much needed break from go-go city life was my prerogative. Of course I couldn’t miss the opportunity to visit some of my favorite pilates and yoga studios, whole food markets and superfood companies.
Nestled in the hills of San Diego @SunFood, raw and superfood company, beckoned me with open arms. Since 1995 this rockstar sustainable company, created by the infamous raw food pro David Wolfe, has explored the far reaches of the globe to bring the most pure raw superfoods to your front door.
Following a Saturday morning yoga class at the Red Lotus Society downtown San Diego I met up with Brian at Sunfood’s El Cajon raw headquarters. After a passionate, info packed chat and behind the scene glimpse into their globe trotting research and sustainable production methods, we put together the ultimate wellness package giveaway!

Brian showed me some of his personal travel photos of his recent trip to Chile where locals are harvesting and benefiting immensely from the wonder maqui berry. Researchers have found an anti-cancer enzyme in this small purple berry. Not just antioxidant rich, but actually anti-cancer!
Many thanks goes out to Brian and the SunFood team! Let’s just say I wish I had their office kitchen.
I’d have to say this weekend rocked beyond belief! Here’s a photo journal of some of the highlights..
The drive to downtown along the harbor.
Munching on salads at Ocean Beach while soaking in some much needed sun. That’s my best friend Bree!
Veggie kabobs in hand gearing up for pool BBQ birthday.
Me and Tyler, the b-day boy, having a ball and planning a yoga/pilates retreat together! Mexico in October…keep your eyes peeled for it!
More fantastic whole foods, homemade carrot cake and cookies. Oh ya and celebratory booze.
Things got rowdy and wet with the crew. Fun times!
How was your memorial day weekend? Did you get to relax?

I did one, two, and four. However waiting for the confirmation email for three. I have no experience with raw superfood and think this would be a great way to try it and see if I like it. Because it has interested me for awhile but the supply is non-existent here and it is hard to now what is good online. So this is a doubly great article for that reason. I had a good Memorial Day and glad to see you did too.
Ok three came through and all done now.
I have been wanting to try raw superfoods and have recently found them on facebook. I think what you two are doing is a wonderful idea for people that are wanting to get fit and healthy and change their lifestyles. Keep up the good work. Glad to see you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.
Love learning more and more about raw foods. Sunfood has been great and now looking forward to your newsletters and videos. Thank you.
We are new at learning to enjoy the benefits of feel good food and just selecting what foods we want to keep around…so we are ripe for the picking on trying new foods! Working to teach the next generation on the importance of how you eat is how you feel later and how you age. We would LOVE to try everything in this giveaway. Pick me! Pick me!
The few superfoods I have tried, I love. They are making such a difference in my health and appearance. I have such incredible energy since starting to add them to my diet. I’m hoping to try others if I win this package. All requirements are completed. Good luck to everyone, and thanks to Sunfood and to you, Amber.
Joshua- Isn’t it wonderful how now we have access to these wonder foods from around the globe thanks to the internet? love it
. I get my acai, cocoa nib and green superfood fix everyday!
Donna- thanks for the sweet comments. So glad you are learning about the benefits of super foods. They have completely changed my life since I went more raw/vegan six months ago. I have unreal energy and vitality. Vibrating on a different frequency for sure!
Tarja- thanks for entering! What Sunfood products do you love and buy often?
Kim- I know! I want to try them all too. I got to try a few new berries and sample powders when I chatted with Brian. So fun and fascinating.
Betty- What super foods do you use daily or weekly? Thanks for entering and good luck
Amber, I have raw cacao nibs every day. I use coconut oil quite a bit, love goji berries in my salad, and I put raw cacao powder in my smoothies.
I am very new to raw super foods and am trying to learn all I am able. My husband was diagnosed with two types of lymphoma last year, one treatable–the other not. He is doing fantastically well in great part because we began to learn and do all we could with nutrition. Currently, there is no sign of the treatable lymphoma and the lymphoma with no known cure is regressing. I am looking at raw super foods, because I believe that we can make incredible progress in totally eliminating the lymphoma and rebuild his immune system to keep it from reoccurring.
I also want to be, feel, and look healthier.
I forgot to let you know in my previous comment that I have completed all four requirements! Thanks for this opportunity!!
Did it…love your blog!! Just a beginner at both Pilates & raw foods!! thanks for the inspiration!!
Al.
Betty- Yes! I’m loving cocoa nibs at the moment. Acai smoothies with maca and cocao powder too! Goji’s are yummy for trail mix and salads.
Margaret- I am so sorry to hear about your husband, but food is thy medicine! What we eat is what we our cells are made of. I’ve read a lot about how eating more raw and incorporating super foods into your diet has reversed and cleared up all sorts of diseases. From cancer, to high blood pressure, to autoimmune disorders to simply clearing complexion and providing radiant energy. Best of luck with the changes!
Al- oh so glad you found Epicself! Happy to inspire you to love pilates and raw food. I can’t live without Pilates and raw food is a good portion of my diet. Looking forward to hearing more from you
.
Amber, love the pictures! I need to come out to the west coast, we could have a blast! Love the bikini, the pattern rocks. And all the food looks fabulous. I wish we had more fruit and veg at the bbq I went to yesterday!
When I first began my journey towards a vegan and raw lifestyle, I was not really interested in “superfoods” because I considered them to be superfluous at that point in my life. But now that I’ve been becoming more and more interested in how food affects the body and how nature really does provide all the things we need, superfoods have become really interesting to me! Most things aren’t really in my budget right now but every now and then I like to splurge on something and savor …cacao nibs, coconut oil, etc.
I did the steps, what a great idea! I love raw sustainable super foods because they are great for you and they promote better environment and living habits for all of us. My personal favorite raw foods that I use all of the time are Goji berries and coconut oil, not only are they great for you, but they taste awesome also!
Completed the above, because I want to be strong and healthy as long as possible!
@m_rna
Well I have to admit that I have never really tried many of these superfoods that you are all speaking of, but I do love to eat as healthfully & as naturally as I can because I feel that ‘you are what you eat & you eat what you are’. I haven’t been on a search for whole foods for long, but I found Sunfoods on fb, and I am very inspired by it as well as your own fabulous site. I am a mother of 4 and I’m now ready to start living a more sustainable lifestyle. I enjoy Louise Solomon’s Yogalates on a regular basis now and I’m ready to taste the pleasures of nature beyond my own backyard/farmer’s market. I feel the need to set an epic example for my favorite people and watch what they do with it.<3 P.S. You look great, you're my new inspiration. Best of Luck!
did all of the above. i know raw foods are alive and the best thing for your body!
I completed all of the above steps!
I’d love to win this superfoods giveaway because as much as I love the idea of incorporating these types of products into my diet, sadly my budget limits my ability to purchase them on a regular basis. I’m a huge fan of coconut oil, cacao powder, goji berries and the like; they keep a raw vegan diet exciting, and promote health and wellness which is what I strive to maintain.
Oh, and p.s. all of the food from the BBQ looks fabulous! If only the parties I attended had a spread of food like that! Would make my life a whole lot easier.
following both on twitter and signed up for the newsletter!
why support? for health, well being and to support my local farming community.
Hello!
This is fantastic!!! Your site looks amazing. I am an avid follower of Sunfoods & absolutely love their products. Anyone who is a friend of theirs is a friend of mine!!
I completed each of the steps above in order to be entered in this contest. I hope I win!
I began eating raw foods, and superfoods, about 2 years ago. While growing up I was interested in healthy living and healthy eating, I never really felt all that great. Once I discovered that food was actually the best way to heal your body, I never looked back.
My husband was diagnosed with bone cancer at age 25, and my father was diagnosed with lymphoma last year. Eating healthy is not just about me anymore! Getting these superfood products, and being able to share this with them would be amazing.
Please consider me for this contest!
I’m excited to get to know you!
Thanks,
Jenny Mrkobrad

I love raw superfoods because I have crohn’s disease and so many of them help me stay well! Raw/vegan foods have helped me heal in many ways! I love it!!!
Ilana- yes! You should come out to the wild west. We have all the fruit and veg you’ll ever need. We are truly blessed with rich soil. I too can’t always afford superfoods which is why I wanted to give them away. They are a luxury, but well worth it.
Mikko- I agree. Most super foods taste incredible. Coconut oil and cocoa powder top my list!
Marina- cheers for strong and healthy. Don’t we all want to be epic?!
Amy- thanks for the sweet compliments and congrats on already living a sustainable healthy life. It sounds like you already eat very well from your own garden. Something I wish I had space for in SF! Super foods take nutrition to the next level. Providing us with the highest antioxidants, energy, and ultimate longevity. Why not try the best that nature has to offer?
Nancy- live foods rock!
Erica- girl I’m with you. Budgeting for these super foods can be tricky, but well worth the investment in our health. At least every once in a while
. And yes, our BBQ was really healthy. The b-day boy is vegetarian. A couple of the soy hot dogs ended up in the pool though…pretty nasty once we BBQ’ed them!
Beth- so you are a locavore too? Awesome
Jenny- I am excited to get to know you too. We all need to support each other as I am sure you know now more than ever. I wish your family good health and know they will benefit from these goodies.
Lauren- wow. So great to hear from someone who has been transformed by raw and super food eating. What are your favorite super foods and why?
I completed the above. I love raw superfoods, especially SunFood. Raw cacao nibs, coconut oil, maca, spirulina, hemp seeds, you name it. I love putting them in my smoothies and I’ve been getting more creative lately in the kitchen. I love how raw food gives me an abundance of energy, mental clarity, increased productivity, and how it can completely uplift my spirit. I think it’s partly because I feel my grandma’s presence when I am preparing raw food. My grandma became a raw foodist about 25 years ago when she was weak and in a wheelchair in order to overcome a degenerative bone disease and she introduced me to juicing, wheat grass, seaweed, kale salads, homemade pates, Kombucha, and flax crackers. These healing foods cured her disease and she regained her physical and mental strength. She took me to raw potlucks as a teenager and I loved the food. Yet, I didn’t start doing my own research and exploration in raw food until after she passed on.
Whitney! wow what an incredible story. Sounds like she really changed your life. Do you have any cook books you recommend? Raw potlucks sounds awesome! What a great idea
Yes, she changed my life and touched so many lives! Raw potlucks are fun because you can try different foods and provide the recipe for others. I love Naked Chocolate by David Wolfe, I am Grateful from Cafe Gratitude, and I just ordered Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine by Gabriel Cousens. I often experiment on my own and see what I can create
Whitney- Those resources are great! I recently bought and am plowing through The Live Food Factor by Susan Schenck. Are you still living in Santa Cruz? If so we should meet up and “uncook” together. I’d love to catch up!
Sounds fun! I’m moving back to SC in a couple weeks for the summer. Thanks for all the great info, resources, and advice
Who were the lucky winners? Sadly, it wasn’t me.
Betty! I am picking winners today. My week has been beyond hectic with clients and I haven’t had an ounce of time to get online. I will write a post today announcing winners
I shared it on my FB page…
Added you both on Twitter!
I subscribed to your letter because I’m so excited about finding your site (via twitter)
I am so excited about raw foods and especially the superfoods…I used to buy raw cacao, but it got so expensive…*crosses fingers* to win! I’m so passionate about raw foods and their ability to heal!
Charissa! So sorry, but the contest is over. I’m elated to have you join us here on Epicself though. Raw and superfoods are so powerful. Stay tuned for more awesome giveaways coming down the pike.
Charissa- Thanks so much for entering. I hope you win next time. Coming up soon!
Greetings from Florida! I’m bored to tears at work so I decided to browse your website on my iphone during lunch break. I enjoy the info you present here and can’t wait to take a look when I get home.
I’m shocked at how quick your blog loaded on my cell phone .. I’m not even using WIFI, just 3G .
. Anyhow, great blog!
