By now we all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. By eating a nutritious, fiber full breakfast you can fire up your metabolism and gain the energy you’ll need for the day. As I have mentioned before it’s best to “eat like a king in the morning and a pauper at night.” This way you’ll be sure to burn off those calories by the end of the day.

Ever notice how that huge bowl of cold cereal just doesn’t get you going? Well, traditional Chinese Medicine suggests the best way to rev up your metabolism and aide the digestive process is to eat warm foods in the morning. Cold cereal and milk, for example, is thought to slow digestion rather than kick start your day right. With this idea in mind I came up with my top 5 breakfasts to really get you moving and energized.

1.) Steel Cut Oatmeal: Top with blueberries and a drizzle of maple syrup for a little sweetness.

2.) Egg Bagel: Sandwich two eggs and a large slice of tomato on a whole wheat bagel.

3.) Omelet and Toast: Mix two egg whites with two whole eggs, add some spinach and mushrooms to make a low fat, veggie omelet. Toast up two slices of whole wheat bread and top with organic berry jam.

4.) Smoked Salmon Bagel: Toast a whole wheat bagel, smear on a thin layer of non/low fat cream cheese and top with smoked salmon (preferably wild caught).

5.) Breakfast Burrito: Add spinach, mushroom, bell pepper, onion, tomatoes, and tofu or roasted potatoes to three eggs and wrap it all in a whole wheat or spinach tortilla. Add some ketchup and you’ve got yourself an awesome breakfast!!

So try one of these warm meals and see how you feel versus that cold smoothie or cereal. There’s a reason why everybody drinks tea or coffee in the morning. It’s not just the caffeine that wakes you up it’s also the warm temperature. With these great breakfasts you’ll be sure to stay satisfied and be ready for anything the day can throw your way.

Muesli should be #1 rather than steel cut oats as there is less fiber, fat and protein.

Good post. If anyone chose these options for a morning breakfast, they would have a nice amount of energy to start their day.
