Jumpstyle is an awesome dance style that was developed in Europe a few years back. Recently, “jumpers” and their fast pace, bass thumping moves have gotten airtime on several news channels and gained popularity all over the world.
The dancers jump in various choregraphed sequences to the hard base beats of “jump” music, which is similar to house or techno. It looks to me to be a mix of jump roping (without the rope) and folk dancing or riverdance clogging. Jumpstyle even looks like it could be a distant cousin of Dance Dance Revolution, without the machine of course. I searched high and low for the best videos, and here they are:
If you watched the third season of So You Think You Can Dance you would have seen Jumpstyle and it’s first huge debute in the U.S when a guy self-named The Gold Inferno showed his jumping skills during his audition. Here is his wildly popular Jumpstyle how-to video in case you want to pick up some of the basics. I know I do!
Dance Your Way Thin With JumpStyle
I think Jumpstyle would be a great way to get in shape. Can’t you see it being taught in dance studios and gyms? Plus, all eyes would be on you and your crazy moves the next time you hit the dance floor at your favorite local club. Awesome!
Oh yeah… and here is the latest dance craze out of Europe. Techtonik is a dance style that uses some of the leg movement from Jumpstyle and incorporates tons of arm and upper body movement reminiscent of hiphop. Just watching it makes me want to get up and dance.
