My first and only baby was an orange tabby I called Hendrix. I had packed up and moved to San Francisco for college, settled into a place with my boyfriend downtown, and couldn’t wait to head to the SPCA to rescue a kitty. I’d left my parents home/zoo and was yearning for a little fury friend to love. My boyfriend was more of a dog person and wasn’t too keen on the idea, but soon realized I wasn’t giving in.
My mom is a diehard cat lover so we teamed up to find the perfect kitty at the Santa Cruz SPCA. At 8 weeks old, Hendrix stole our hearts. He was a monkey child from the beginning. Climbing on everything, including our bare legs! He was a handful to say the least.

The first few months were like any new born I suppose. Sleepless nights because Hendrix always wanted to be with us in bed and would howl if he was shut out of the room. You can imagine this endless crying made my boyfriend want to pull his hair out. Let’s just say these were trying times for all involved!
Thankfully Hendrix out grew the separation anxiety and Eddie, my ex, bonded and fell head over heels in love with him. I was dancing six hours a day at the time and happy to come home and cuddle with my two men.But as life rolls, Eddie and I split a few years later and Hendrix stayed with me until I moved to Australia.
My dear friend in San Diego took him in so I could romp around the world. When I landed back state side Hendrix flew home to me for only a few months before tragically passing under a simple procedure for a chronic ear infection. I was devastated.
And though I terribly miss my first baby, my roommate has an adult cat, Bartalk, and brand new baby kitty, Mala, that I love and play with every day.
